One of the best things to do in Laos is to make a motorbike tour on the Bolaven plateau. This tour, called the ‘Pakse loop’, will take you past wonderful nature, from beautiful landscapes to dazzling waterfalls. Because the Pakse loop is just the waterfalls loop, right?
Pakse is a city of about 100,000 inhabitants in the south of Laos. Personally I found this city a little bit disappointing and there is not much to do. But Pakse is the starting point of this beautiful tour on the motorbike.
The Pakse loop: how do I arrange this?
Because of my broken toe I hesitated to make the Pakse loop. Finally I decided to do it and I rented a scooter from Miss Noy & Mr. Yver Motorbike Rental. Every day At the end of the afternoon they organize a meeting to inform you about the whole route. And you get a map with all the highlights of the loop!
You can do a small (two days) or a big route (3 days). Especially the big route over the plateau has a few dangers. Sometimes scooters are stolen. But with a bit of common sense you don’t have to be afraid of that. I decided to do the two-day route. Below I give an impression of this beautiful Pakse loop and you immediately understand why you should’nt miss this trip in Laos!
The Pakse loop: day 1
It is recommended to drive the route clockwise. And I would definitely recommend it, because on the second day you will see the real highlights.
The Pakse loop: day 2
Of course you can always decide to stay another day in Tad Lo. Afterwards I would have liked to do that, but with a broken toe I could not swim in a rocky river and most people stay here to relax near the falls. On the second day it’s all about beautiful waterfalls…
And? Would you like to do the Pakse Loop?
I hope I convinced you, if you ever go to Pakse, to make this beautiful ride through the magnificent nature of the Bolaven Plateau. Take your time and enjoy the Pakse loop!
Soon I will also publish a photo series of the Thakhek loop.
